Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix 1½ cups flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a bowl.
- Cut in 5 tablespoons cold butter and 4 tablespoons cold shortening using a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add 5 tablespoons ice water gradually, mixing until dough forms but isn’t sticky.
- Form dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll dough on floured surface to fit 9-inch pie pan. Transfer to pan, press into bottom and sides, and trim excess.
- Whisk 1½ cups brown sugar, ¼ cup melted cooled butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and ½ teaspoon salt in a bowl.
